THATCHWORKS
In common use well into the 1950’s when horse-drawn deliveries were still common and cattle were still herded to market along town streets, these water troughs were part of everyday life. They could be found at the roadside all over Britain and most were maintained by the “Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association”. Some still survive, protected as “”listed” artefacts, and have found alternative uses, such as plant displays.
They usually included a drinking fountain at one end and our model has this feature ….. not sure that would be permitted under modern “Health & Safety” standards!
