"Esso" history : Standard Oil Trust (formed in the USA) commenced business in the UK around 1888, as the Anglo American Oil Company Ltd., importing paraffin. Their motor spirit (petrol) was marketed from 1896 under the "Pratts" branding (named after a founder of the US parent company). In 1905 they were awarded a Royal Warrant by King Edward VIIth for their "Pratts Perfection" motor spirit. In 1934 the "Esso" branding replaced "Pratts" and three grades of petrol were sold in the UK. The cheapest of these was "Essolene" for which the logo artwork is also supplied for use with our models. So pre-1934 use the "Pratts" logo, after that, "Essolene".
