CARBOYS
In the days before liquids were carried in bulk tankers, chemicals and acids were transported in carboys. A large glass flask was protected by straw packing contained within a metal frame.
These would be loaded into open wagons, often of the shock-absorbing type.
The French used similar containers for wine.
